White Bird From Rio

Rio white bird: Nigel the withe cockatoo parrot is the main antagonist of the Rio franchise. He appears as the main antagonist of the 2011 film Rio and one of the two main antagonists of its 2014 sequel Rio 2 (alongside The Boss).

Nigel (Rio) is also the main antagonist in the books of the franchise, and the video games Angry Birds Rio, Rio Multiplayer Party Game!, Rio: The Video Game, and Rio: Match 3 Party.

He is an ugly cockatoo with a sulfurous crest and the sworn enemy of Blu and Perla. He is also Marcel’s former pet and the “evil minion”, Charlie’s former boss and Gabi’s boyfriend. It is not a pretty bird, but it was “very beautiful”. Once a popular TV star, he was replaced by a young Paraguayan parakeet named Petricious. Since then, Nigel (Rio) has after all the beautiful birds. Hector put his jealousy and rage to good use in his role as Marcel and the smugglers’ former “evil hand bird”.

He was voiced by Jemaine Clement, who also played Boris the Animal in Men in Black 3, the Swallower of Fresh Flesh in The Good Big Giant, and Tamatoa in Vaina, the Legend of the End of the World.

Rio

Nigel (Rio) is first seen as a “patient” at Tulio Monteiro’s aviary. But his illness soon turns out to be false; that night, he tricks Sylvio into pretending to be hurt, then knocks him out with a chloroform-soaked rag and steals his keys. He then unlocks the door and lets Fernando in, allowing him to steal Blue and Perla.

Fernando brings the captured parrot to the smugglers’ hideout. When Perla tries to escape, Nigel (Rio) corners her and begins to suffocate her, taunting her by asking, “What’s going on? Do we feel caught in the throat?” Marcel orders Hector to bring Perla back alive, so the parrot Hector puts her back in a cage.

Blue and Perla are then locked up with many other captured exotic birds. Soon after, Nigel (Rio) is fed chicken meat by Tipa who lost a rock-paper-scissors match against Armando, to see who would feed the cockatoo. After finishing his meal, Nigel (Rio) comes to see Blue and Perla and explains the motivations behind his evil nature with the song “Pretty Bird”.

He was once the star of a popular animal show until he was expelled and replaced by a parakeet; Today, he has a hatred for “pretty birds”. He says he intends to make them “ugly” too, then he offers the macaws sweet nightmares and flies away laughing wickedly. Later, Nigel (Rio) hears the macaws trying to escape and tries to stop them.

Nigel (Rio) chases Blue and Perla through the slums of Rio de Janeiro, almost catching up with them, but they escape at the last moment, and Nigel (Rio) collides with an electrical transformer, causing the entire city of Rio to be blacked out. After recovering, Hector returns to the smugglers’ hideout.

Nigel (Rio) is sent by Marcel to retrieve Blue and Perla, while Marcel and the other smugglers (Tipa and Armando) plan to use the Carnival parade to hide the contraband of birds in order to get to the nearest airport.

Nigel (Rio) forces a horde of mischievous marmosets to help him catch Blue and Perla. In doing so, he mistreats their leader Mauro and threatens to give them “flying lessons” if they don’t find them by the end of the day.

The marmosets track Blue and Perla to the Samba club where Mauro confronts them, but the birds of the Samba club defend their friends, and the birds and marmosets engage in a battle. The marmosets lose the battle and fail to capture Blue and Perla. Later, Nigel (Rio) arrives at the place where the battle had taken place.

He finds Tiny a green bird, and interrogates her, into telling him where the blue macaws parrot is. Nigel (Rio) then briefly defeats Mauro for his failure, then decides to take matters into his own hands and lashes out at Blue and Perla himself.

As Blue flies into the sky crying (after falling out with Blue), Nigel (Rio) ambushes her, grabbing her by the neck. Perla breaks free and tries to defend herself, but Hector is quickly overwhelmed and captures her. Then, after briefly mocking her, he flies away with her in his clutches, laughing madly.

Nigel (Rio) takes Perla to the Carnival parade in the smugglers’ float and uses her as bait to lure Blue, Rafael, Pedro, and Nico. When they arrive at the parade, he captures Rafael, Nico, and Pedro without seeing them, and then, when Blue tries to free Perla, Nigel (Rio) ambushes him and locks him in a cage. Hector then gives Marcel some feathers of Blue and Perla as proof that he captured them. The captives are then loaded into the smugglers’ plane, and the plane takes off.

During the flight, Blue managed to free himself and all other captive birds. Nigel (Rio) and Marcel notice it, but Blue blocks the cockpit door with a bunch of cages, preventing Hector and Marcel from passing. Blue then opens the hatch and lets the birds escape from the plane.

However, as Perla tries to comfort Blue about his fear of flying, Nigel (Rio) manages to escape from the cockpit. The nasty cockatoo attacks Blue by cornering and strangling him. Perla tries to attack Nigel (Rio), but Hector throws her into the wall of the plane, causing a cage to fall on Perla’s wing, injuring her. Hector happily mocks the macaws, but Blue, furious, notices that the fire extinguisher he used to escape from his cage is close to them.

Blue manages to grab the fire extinguisher, hooks it to Nigel’s (Rio) leg, and releases the pin, triggering it. Nigel (Rio) is thrown out of the plane and sucked into one of the propellers, which rips off most of his feathers, apparently kills him, and eventually causes the plane to crash.

However, sometime later, Nigel (Rio) is revealed to have survived, but he has lost most of his feathers and is humiliated by a “photo finish” of Mauro as revenge for the abuse he committed against him and his servants earlier.

Rio 2

A few years after the first film, Nigel (Rio), who suffered the most unworthy of indignities (defeated by what he calls the “pretty birds” and thus losing his feathers), is back. However, he is unable to fly and wears an Elizabethan vest (which conceals some unsightly marks on his chest) due to his previous accident.

Shortly after the plane crash at the end of the first film, he was found by humans, taken to a veterinary office, and operated on. The chief surgeon, Dr. Monáe, said: “He will live, but he will never fly again.” After that, Nigel (Rio) started working as a clairvoyance assistant at a third-rate street fair in Manaus. He is obliged to wear a “seer’s” hat during performances. Nigel (Rio) is now at an all-time low in his life, and he’s not happy about it.

While working at the fair, Nigel (Rio) encounters a small venomous pink frog named Gabi — who has a crush on him — and a large mute anteater named Charlie, who wears a bowler hat and bow tie. During one performance, Hector spots Blue and his family flying overhead.

After flashbacks of the trauma Blue caused him, Nigel (Rio) cracks, claiming that “that bluebird caused my misery”; He gets angry, attacks his audience and his dog handler, and escapes forcefully from the fair. Along the way, he frees Gabi and Charlie from the street fair as well. He quickly enlists them as his stooges and together, Nigel (Rio), Gabi, and Charlie follow Blue and his family, with Hector intending to take revenge on Blue for rendering him unable to fly.

His predominant passions are Shakespeare, evil, alliteration, revenge, and attention. For Nigel (Rio), revenge is a dish that must be served cold… and with lots of blue feathers.

Nigel (Rio)and his two henchmen follow the blue macaws on the “Céu Azul”, a tour boat. Nigel (Rio) plans to attack them at midnight, while they sleep, “because it’s eviler.” While Nigel (Rio) and Charlie sleep, Gabi sings a song about her love for Hector, but also about his venomous skin killing him if they touch each other.

Nigel (Rio) wakes up after the song ends, thinking he has just had a nightmare. He then decides it’s time to attack, and the infamous trio stealthily moves across the boat toward Blue and his family, who have fallen asleep on top of the boat. Nigel (Rio) reaches the macaws just as Gabi is about to poison Blue, and stops him, wanting Blue for himself.

Nigel (Rio) approaches Blue, raising his talons and preparing to kill him. But before Hector can strike, Charlie (who had been distracted by ants in a bottle) accidentally triggers the boat’s horn, waking everyone up. Hector, Gabi, and Charlie are chased off the ship by the humans before Blue and his family can see them.

After that, Nigel (Rio) follows Blue and his family into the Amazon rainforest, still determined to take revenge. Forcing Charlie to carry him to a tree, Nigel (Rio) spots the tribe of Spix’s macaws and declares them “infested”.

The next day, Nigel (Rio) is still looking for his enemies. While hiding in the bushes, he sees “Blue” nearby. Charlie then catapults Nigel (Rio) towards the blue macaw with his tongue, and Nigel (Rio) attacks the macaw and pins it, picking up a leaf-based “disguise” along the way.

However, the macaw is not Blue and Nigel (Rio) landed at the spot where the “Amazon Untamed” auditions are overseen by Nico, Pedro, and Rafael. Hector is interested in the idea of becoming a “star” again and participates in auditions. When Rafael notices that Hector is familiar to him, Hector calls himself “Bob the Bird” to avoid suspicion. Hector invents a number, on the fly, that brings out the artist in him, and he wins the audition.

After learning that everyone will be present at the new show, Nigel (Rio) decides to use his newfound attention to his advantage and plots to kill Blue with a poisoned dart, using a porcupine feather as a dart, Gabi’s venom as poison, and Charlie’s long snout to shoot the dart. However, as they prepare, he gets a little too much into his game, missing Blue without even recognizing him (despite Gabi’s warnings), while demanding glitter for his performance.

Nigel (Rio) performance is canceled as the loggers attack the jungle and a battle ensues between the loggers and the jungle animals. Nigel (Rio) and Gabi head for battle, Nigel (Rio) on Charlie’s back, and Gabi on the anteater’s hat. Upon arrival, Nigel (Rio) spots Blue in battle.

The cockatoo orders Charlie to shoot the poison dart at Blue, but the dart misses and bounces back to Nigel (Rio), who dodges it just in time. When Blue pulls lit TNT from a site of trees designated for demolition, Hector stops the Big Boss from stopping him, wanting Blue for himself.

As Blue flies TNT through the air, Nigel (Rio) hangs on and pulls on the ropes, dragging himself toward his nemesis. Nigel (Rio) jumps on Blue, and as they fall, Nigel (Rio) reveals himself to Blue just as the TNT explodes.

However, both Blue and Nigel (Rio) survive the explosion and end up tangled in vines, upside down and unconscious. When they both regain consciousness, Nigel (Rio) attacks Blue and they engage in a feather fight. Gabi and Charlie try to help Hector by shooting Blue with another poisoned dart, but it hits Hector by accident.

Nigel (Rio), thinking he is about to die, delivers an Elizabethan death speech as many birds arrive, then apparently dies and falls from a branch to the ground below. Gabi, thinking she killed Hector and not wanting to live without him, drinks a drop of his poison and seems to die.

However, Blue’s daughter Bia points out that Gabi is not poisoned at all. Nigel (Rio) and Gabi are both still alive, which proves Bia is right (her parents lied to Gabi by telling her she was poisoned). Nigel (Rio), always vengeful, tries to attack Blue and his family one last time, but Gabi trains Hector and gives him affection against his will.

Nigel (Rio) and Gabi are then found by Tulio and Linda, who cage them and bring them back to Rio to observe them, as Tulio and Linda think they have “bonded”. It is not known what happened to Hector after that.

Rio: Snakes are alive!

After losing most of his feathers and the power to fly, Nigel (Rio) is reduced to dancing in the streets of Rio for leftover food. When he overhears two Hollywood producers talking about their desire to bring him back, Nigel (Rio) performs one of his characteristic moves.

Unfortunately, neither recognizes Nigel (Rio) because of the loss of his pen and mocks him. Nigel (Rio) steals a woman’s feathered boa and sticks the feathers to her, once again trying to attract the attention of producers. They are afraid of him and chase him away. Hector overhears Blue and Perla talking about a magical elixir that could supposedly restore his feathers and decides to follow them.

Although they have preceded him in the cave containing the elixir, Nigel (Rio) manages to distract Blue and Perla by sending a swarm of angry bats against them, resulting in a collapse that traps the two blue macaws. Nigel (Rio) is then thrown into the elixir by one of the bats. The elixir doesn’t work, but Hector is deluding himself that it does. Bia, Carla, and Tiago then arrive and Hector teases them with the fate of their parents.

When Ssssalbatore is released, Nigel (Rio) ends up being run over by him at the bottom of the mountain. Nigel (Rio) finds himself in Rio again, but his attempts to attract attention are curtailed when Ssssalbatore (with Blue hanging on) knocks him down. Hector finds the producers, and they are interested in him, but only to capture him and present him as a “monster”. Hector shuns them, insisting that he is a “pretty bird”.

Appearance

Nigel (Rio) has a slim and muscular appearance and is very tall, taller than Blue and Perla. It has irregular grayish-white plumage, brown eyes, and pale red bags under the eyes, which are somewhat bloodshot. It also has unusually long and pointed claws for a cockatoo, and its feathers often molt. Like other sulfur-crested cockatoos, Nigel has white and yellow crested feathers on the top of his head.

At Rio 2, Nigel (Rio) wears an Elizabethan waistcoat the size of a bird. He also now has a large bald spot on his chest, which is hidden by the Elizabethan vest, probably badly injured by his encounter with the propeller of the Rio plane.

Big shot

As the main antagonist of the Rio franchise, Nigel (Rio) displayed very anti-social behavior.

He is very violent, we see him constantly using physical force to hurt or terrorize other characters. For example, he threatened to give Mauro and his subordinates “flying lessons” to force the marmosets to help him find Blue and Perla.

After the battle at the Samba Club, Nigel (Rio) arrived on the scene and terrorized Tiny into telling him where the blue macaws had gone, threatening to “burst” or “break his head”.

He also pinned various characters, including Blue and Perla. At the end of the first film, he pinned Blue. Perla told him to let him go, but instead, Nigel (Rio) pushed Perla and a cage landed on his wing. Nigel said “Oh pity, now we have two useless birds that don’t fly” and laughed.

Nigel (Rio) also used to capture birds for smugglers, once he strangled Perla and Marcel told him to bring her back alive. He also tried to capture Blue and Perla after their escape, he succeeded the first time but Blue then sent him into the propellers of the plane, which is probably why he wants so much revenge on Blue.

He is also extremely sadistic, often taking great joy and pleasure in the suffering of others. For example, he was shown in the hiding place of smugglers terrorizing captured birds, and he then ridiculed Perla when her wing was injured. In both situations, he laughed maniacally as he saw the fear and hurt of his victims.

Nigel (Rio) is totally ruthless; He shows no mercy or mercy to his victims and enemies and seems to have no remorse for his evil deeds.

His two main passions are performance and wickedness. He also has a funny, if mischievous, sense of humor.

Nigel (Rio) is also intelligent, vindictive, cunning, cruel, malicious, arrogant, and greedy.

Capabilities

  • Physical Strength: Nigel (Rio) is noticeably stronger than most other bird characters in terms of physical strength, given his size and sharp claws. He knows his physical advantage and uses it for his purposes throughout the franchise.
  • Vast speed: Nigel’s (Rio) speed level is incredible for a cockatoo; almost like that of a bird of prey.
  • Great endurance: Nigel (Rio) also has great endurance, which has proven to be enough to survive an extreme electric shock. His endurance was also high enough to survive a plane crash, although he lost most of his feathers and was paralyzed forever by natural flight. He also survived an explosion with only minor burns.
  • Flight: His flight abilities were great in the first film, but after his accident, his flight abilities were paralyzed, leaving him unable to lift more than a few centimeters off the ground. Despite this, it is still quite fast.
  • Singing and acting skills: Nigel (Rio) also has incredible singing and acting skills, as evidenced by his songs “Pretty Bird” and “I Will Survive”. He acquired these talents during his former role as a television star.
  • High intelligence: In addition to his physical superiority, his intelligence is very high; He’s smarter than the smugglers and most of the other characters. His intelligence is only tested by his nemesis, Blu. Nigel is more sneaky than the average bird, which sometimes allows him to outsmart even humans. For example, he used a chloroform-soaked cloth to neutralize Sylvio at Tulio’s aviary to capture Blue and Perla. He is also a clever con man, able to trick Tulio and his employees into thinking he was sick and injured.
